Evidence-Backed Interventions

Homelessness is an immensely complex subject through which a myriad of issues such as childhood trauma, mental health and lack of access to essential services intersect. A nuanced, adaptive and carefully researched approach is therefore essential for success. From our extensive reviews of the academic literature we have chosen three broad areas of focus that we have combined to form our overall scheme.

The Five Current Priorities

With Assertive Outreach, we restore trust in clients and lay doen the foundation of a productive partnership.

Client entitlements are generally severely short of the correct amount, averaging at approximately £300. We aim to address this immediately using AO to give them financial autonomy and keep them off the streets.

Often due to childhood trauma, the vast majority of rough sleepers have undiagnosed mental disorders which significantly impede their recovery process. We thus prioritise providing rapid access to healthcare with private psychiatric appointments for a diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Tried and Tested

Dim Yma initially allocated over 24 months meticulously researching exemplary solutions for tackling homelessness. In our 7 months since registration, the outcomes of our interventions have been met with great success, producing results consistent with the literature. Regarding our three main interventions:

  • Personal choice and agency using AO are key when combined with other project.
  • Flexi-budgets have been shown to reduce harmful behaviour such as substance use and sex work.
  • Rapid Rehousing has the most extensive research based out of all interventions, with significant evidence of its efficacy. Finland has widely adopted this model to dramatically reduce street homeless over two decades and has one of the lowest rates in Europe.

The Recovery Roadmap

For Dim Yma, homelessness it’s fundamentally an issue. But with the right support, it’s one where recovery is possible. Our mission is thus very much focused on assisting clients make a complete recovery from precarious living. The process can be long, complex and challenging but we will see it through.
