Our planned Rapid Rehousing scheme is based on the Housing First model which holds that clients should be settled into quality, self-contained accommodation as soon as possible, with minimal conditionality. This is in stark contrast to the “Staircase Model” that many hostels employ in which residents progress up a ladder of improving accommodation settings based on their behaviour.
With Housing Fist boasting the most extensive evidence from extensive research supporting its efficacy, this revolutionary strategy has been shown to sustainably end homelessness for 70-90% of participants and has been instrumental in nearly eradicating rough sleeping in Finland.
These principles and others will be integrated into our Rapid Rehousing scheme as the concluding aspect for our Recovery Roadmap. We will continue to provide intensive support whilst clients are housed and assist with helping them reintegrate and lead fulfilling lives.
Support is flexible and provided as long as needed to link client with other services.
Clients have choice and over their housing such as location, type and furnishings.
Housing allocations should not be coercive and based on conditions for access.
Support is based on goals and aspirations, helping clients to realise these.
The response to Housing First has been exceedingly positive in housing retention averaging between 70-90% with additional benefits for clients such as:
Dim Yma is thus committed to make Rapid Rehousing the final component of our Recovery Roadmap. We will also assist clients with furnishing their homes and continue to provide intensive and regular support to help them realise their goals and lead fulfilling lives. Whilst this intervention remains in the planning phase we are fully dedicated to make it a reality given the overwhelming evidence of its ability to end homelessness.
